Hey all

Im looking for music enthusiasts to chat and collaborate with.

Whats your favorite style of EDM? Do you produce music? What DAW do you use??

If I had a nickle for every person who is obsessed with "The beatles, jimi, led zeppelin etc" here at western I would be a friggin millionaire! Im looking for people that have interest in some thing that gets dancing!

I don't know much about EDM,

I don't know much about EDM, but I do listen to several bands that heavily incorporate samples and electronic elements into their music (Radiohead, Animal Collective, Kraftwerk, Battles, Daft Punk, The Flaming Lips) and have always thought it would be fun to do something like that. I play guitar and sing, along with percussion and some keys. If that sounds cool to you send me a message or something.

I like all kinds of dance

I like all kinds of dance music.

I'm glad I stumbled across 89.5 years ago; I do not know what I'd do without that station.

No I don't produce my own. I'm not that talented.

Let's see....Daft Punk works for me. They're classic and artists frequently take samples from them. I never get tired listening to their stuff. There's Basement Jaxx, Basshunter, Gabriel & Dresden, Deepest Blue, Sam Sparro, Hamasaki Ayumi remixes and a bunch of other things.

Right now I am really into Go Periscope. If I recall correctly, they attend Western as well. They're on MySpace as well, you should check them out.

I love trance with a passion, particularly vocal, euphoric "in your face" trance. :) I've been looking for events around Bellingham, but I haven't found any.

Anyone know of anything going on?

Oh and thanks for posting! It's hard to find others who like our music. :)

Yeah! I know Bassnectar came not too long ago to the Wild Buffalo... it was a 21 and over show.. so I was out of luck.

We should definitly get a rave going here at Western... find a few local western DJs to just mix up some good edm!!

Some of my favorite artists are Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto (of course), ATB, SASH, Solarstone, Pendulum, ACEN, Bassnectar, Dead Mau5, Basshunter (:D), Armin van Helden, Paul Van Dyk etc... :D

Would you guys be down for a lil raver?

RE: EDM

First off, I'm stoked you call it EDM - I didn't think anyone but me and (other) internet geeks called it that...i'd be down to check it out and it seems there's a lot of interest on here

I personally have a set of tables and a DVS (Torq), and have made some mash-ups in Ableton.

Although I'm pretty into hip-hop right now, I love listening to house (funky, electro, vocal), and recently started listening to some breaks mixes....and dubstep is pretty awesome too. Trance is ok, but I'm kind of meh on it (no offense to you trance fans out there :-P)

Offense taken. Lol. Perhaps you haven't been properly introduced to decent trance? :)

I think this club would be a great opportunity for others to explore the wonderment of what electronica has to offer. I personally think a lot of people like edm, but they're all hiding. XDD

It's all about HARDSTYLE baby!  And of course, who could forget DRUM...AND...BASS.

And for anyone who is interested, there is a Valentine's day rave in Bellingham.  Line-up: DJ Kai, Hyperfunk, Tim Trip, DJ Owtbrake, Tha Godfather.  Lots of electrohouse and hard trance.

Didn't they used to do a rave event in Fairhaven? I remember going to one where they had a dude playing trance off his laptop (fade in/fade out, no beatmatching... :-/ ) and there were a few who came out.

P.S. And what is "decent trance"? Like, Tiesto or something? :-P

Awww. I would come :) Trance is good anywhere :)

Eh, I'm not a huge Tiesto fan....but the man has definitely got talent. If I were to pick a mainstream DJ it'd probably be Armin van Buuren :) I'll admit, I'm a fangirl of his. But in exploring trance, I encourage listening to the different types of trance. I'm not a psy/goa trance fan, more of female vocal/euphoric, and some prog trance. I know what I don't like. Hahaha. I don't like if the song is too cheesy or too "techy". I think I'm just irritated with people confusing trance and "techno".

Raving

I love Armin Van Buuren, saw him in LA for New Years with 60,000 other folks, it was amazing. If you guys are looking for raves, Seattle isn't too far away, and putting a club together would be perfect for carpooling. kandyland is pretty decent, I believe the 5th one is Feb 27th. The best site for all techno/trance parties is nwtekno.org. Here is a link to the calendar for feb:

Some ideas!

I have to say, after having dropped out of WWU in '05 to work and party all over the globe for the last 3 years (just returned this quarter), seeing cats running around listening to the same tiiirrreedddd zep, beatles nirvana stuff is the peace and tranquility I need to knock out my last few credits and move on to law school.  There are some epic outdoor events in this town come May, but for now I would focus more on making it to cities that have the elements in place to put on a proper production.  To that end, I offer the following:

I second NWtekno.org as a great resource.  However, they have just revamped the site and it is very user-unfriendly now.

An excellent (should be) event I suggest that isn't on NWtekno is the Vancouver Above and Beyond show on thursday, Feb. 26th.  Tickets are $35 canadian+fees and you only need to be 19.  I am planning on blasting up there and driving back that night then going to my 8:30 history class. I'm flying solo for this one, but I'd be down to meet other folks up there.  They were great when I saw them in concert last year.  Here's a video they made about the tour.  You can actually catch a second of my 15 minutes of fame (gray shirt) and my girl in the front row at 4:39.  The logo's arrow is pointing right down on my head!  My girl shows up again at 4:48 in the blk top next to yellow shirt.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvQ58KjM9WE&feature=channel_page

Also see this page to get streaming updates of what's on the cutting edge of prgressive and trance, weekly!  The track listing is a great braching off point for those just getting started to find out relevant producers and DJs.  http://www.aboveandbeyond.nu/radio/trance_around_the_world/

Next Thursday, Dave Dresden is playing a *free* 21+ show at trinity night club in seattle.  Trinity does it up pretty well for these events.  If you are into trance, this is like getting to see eric clapton for free with 300 other people. Plus, his current sets are supposed to be pretty great from what I hear.  I would go there and offer car space, but I have a 400-level chem night exam that night 6-8, 8:30 class on friday and the LSAT at 8:30 saturday...I really can't stay out until 4-5AM and have to sit this one out.  Trust me, if it would not jeopardize my future to this degree, after my exam I would be in my car on the way down there faster than you can spell BMW.

Christopher lawrence is playing at LSC for 21+ in Seattle friday the 13th.  LSC is a crappy place for a show IMO, but everyone should see this guy once or more.

Also, there is a mind blowing lineup of international and local talent assembled for all ages at a rave "Down the Rabbit Hole 5" in Seattle on april 4th (a weekend night) that will be featuring thrillseekers and kyau + albert.  Presale tickets are $20+fee, but will be increasing in price.  I think this is the first weekend of spring quarter, so no excuses for this one.

http://nwtekno.org/showthread.php?t=133241

And for spring break, I am actually going to ultra music festival in Miami.  Check out this lineup!

http://www.ultramusicfestival.com/

If you book now, you can do this for about $650-$1100, depending upon how you plan and how much you partake.  I used an expedia flight + hotel + car package. Covers and tickets to see all these acts individually would easily be 3-5x as much, and you get to go to Miami and party with mad sexy people to boot! I am staying on south beach, where multiple headliner Djs will do club sets in addition to playing at the actual park.  So far it's me and a couple buddies, it would be great to see some more people at this too, so I will not be the only pasty white person.

Yeah I've seen that lineup for ultra - I can't believe they got so many huge names!

Even though its a lot of trance artists (which I wouldn't mind seeing either), I'd love to go just to see Benny Benassi. I've also heard good things about Prodigy's live shows.

Gah! This is great! I've been looking for other people that love EDM. Hefty hard trance/hardstyle/house/D&B fan myself. I've been pondering putting on a rave here in Edens North. I've got music aplenty, and I think I can get speakers...maybe. I need people to show up. I would love to get together with a group of people, if you guys are starting a club. I mix via a computer mostly, so nothing really fancy, but I love the event. I'll be at Candy Box on saturday, wherever it is.

That would probably be the perfect size room. You could fit a ton of people in it, if we could get people to come. Another thing is whether the school would let us put one on. I'd heard something about the school shutting one down one year. Does anyone want to get together and talk about this sort of thing?

I will join!I'm so excited

I will join!

I'm so excited to see some love for EDM.  I have been a hardcore fan for a couple years now.  Anything to make me dance, but there is so much to choose from!

Vocal Trance has definitely been one of my favorites.  I've been listening to a lot of House lately as well, and I've always enjoyed Club Mixes.

My favorite artists are Above and Beyond, Oceanlab, Armin Van Buuren, Kaskade, ATB, and Aly and Fila.

I also like some songs from Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Thrillseekers, Micheal Gray, Freddy Le Grand, and 4 Strings

There was actually a Rave just off of campus, a house party earlier this year.  In a 4 car garage or so a few blocks from BT.  Haven't heard anything since though.

And I am planning on going to see Above and Beyond if possible!

ALSO as far as venues.  If you really are at the heart of EDM and are 21+ check out Rumors.  It's a gay bar.... but Friday is straight night and probably 1/3 of the people in there are straight on the weekends generally.  Either way they always have great EDM.

There was a really awesome rave in Seattle on Halloween, I unfortunetly didn't find out about it till it was sold out.  It has Paul Van Dyke and about 10-15 other DJs.  It would have been amazing >_< , but there is always some decent stuff going on in Seattle.

Hey I just wanted to throw this out there early. Pendulum is coming to seattle on March 7th. If you don't know who they are, you're missing out. They're an amazing Drum and Bass band, simply great. You can youtube them for some songs. I plan on going, I'd just need a ride there and back. Here's the link, let me know if anyone's interested in going.

Cybersutra @ Heaven

I just heard of another one from my boy at c89.5 - Cybersutra at club heaven in seattle on friday march 6th!  I have not seen these guys, so I am excited.  It will be 21+ but then 18+ afterhours starting at 2.  Heaven is a great seattle spot for an electronic show, and they rarely do them there anymore.  A great last blast of 5AM fun before dead week/finals!

That was about the best show

That was about the best show you could ask for.  The new material made them a lot better than the last times I've seen them.

That club was sick. Great views from everywhere in the house, cool lattice lights, big lasers and $$ sound system.  Way better than anything Seattle has to offer.

I tried to scout out some WWU people by asking a couple folks that looked like they were lost where they were from; but no luck!

I tried to scout out some WWU people by asking a couple folks that looked like they were lost where they were from; but no luck!

Lmao. :) I don't know if you saw me and my other two club buddies, but I ended up in the very front like right in front of Paavo and Tony! They even squeezed my hand!! *melts* hahaha.

I am resting up for down the rabbit hole tomorrow.  I am STOKED to see thrillseekers.  Are you going?

Save your money on Van Dyk, he's on a bad streak the last three times I have seen him, the most recent of which was six days ago.  I'm no DJ, and I was in spring break mode, but on the technical side we're talking obvious trainwrecks, playing lame remixes (White stipes with alternative tempo and no drum track?  C'mon), etc.  Look up his WMC show on youtube...it sucked.

Above and beyond is in whistler on the 16th....skiing and trance sounds good to me.

Prodigy, crystal method and kaskade+ others for USC 12 will be epic...May 30th in Seattle $50 limited presale.  Two legends, and Kaskade is a great show every time.

The sunday of Memorial day weekend, something amazing happens in Bellingham...stay posted.

If someone set something up,

If someone set something up, I'd definitely go. Its just hard when there seems to be so few people. I just want to dance to electronic music where a rap song doesn't come up every other song.

I could bring CDs and stuff. As for DJing I've never done it, but I'd like to learn.
