Have you ever thought about implementing a purge system, whereby old topics are removed from the forum? It seems especially egregious in the RideShare forum, where there are topics asking for rides from last November. I don't know if this is something that has been talked about and not yet implemented, or what, but it just seems like a waste of space to have those old topics lying around.
Topic purge?

Yeah, we have talked about this, and I could / should probably do this in RideShare. We just wanted to be careful to not remove anything that could provide examples of how to use the Village, as this is still pretty new. I will look into removing old rideshare posts over the next break!
Do mods have the ability to "sticky" threads so users cannot delete/alter/post to them? This is a common feature on forums that would help.
Can mods close threads that are just stupid rants about the community's lack of hygeine or respect? Or maybe create a subforum in Open Say for that sort of thing?
James: I think you are talking about locking a thread.
rollink: We do have the ablility to close (or lock) threads, but it is something that we remain very wary of. We would rather attempt to re-emphasize the thread's topic than lock a thread because, again, this forum is all about promoting dialogue. Closing off the discussion is something that is never very popular. The advisory board will most likely wait until a comment or thread is flagged before taking any official action such as a thread lock.
Is it possible to purge a room listing and the emails that went with it?
Can I suggest that once Spring Quarter '09 ends that all of the "I NEED A TICKET FOR GRADUATION", etc, etc, threads get deleted? They are cluttering up EVERYWHERE because people don't know where to put them, or arent getting results where they put them so they're putting them somewhere else.

In the RideShare forum I can see how this could implemented. However, in the Open Say forum, one might want to revitalize an old topic with a new point of view, especially if new details come to light or situations change.
