What are the pro's and con's against private messaging? Why wouldn't we incorporate it into this forum? I'd like to send personal shout-outs/messages directly to a friend on this forum without having to create a new topic where everyone can see it. Does taht just make Viking Village too Facebooky?
Private messaging?

My roomie asked about chat rooms...
I'm not big on the idea. Chatting with schoolmates online... why not just hang in person... I mean... really.
I think we should stop creating new reasons to sit at our computers. We all spend enough time online, am I right?
I just want to send a quick message to someone...

but at some point the tables turn, and more effective online communication does not mean a decline in socialization. We might be at that point now. It is a point where the opposite is true, people would simple resort to reclusion without digital opportunities for interface. Hence, enhancing the effectiveness of online communication is the only option to maintain social interaction. its sad really. have you seen the last mimsy?

I understand your point; I respectfully disagree.
I had some long-winded counter-argument typed, but with the power of proofreading, I discovered it a little too preachy, and was sort of opening a can of worms about the increasing soullessness proportional to our dependence on technol--- yadda yadda yadda...
Anyway, yeah, sure: put the messaging thing on here.
The majority of V.V. users will appreciate the feature, and those who don't want it or don't care simply won't use it.

PMing is something that should be working in the revision to come online after/during spring break.
I am on the advisory committee for Viking Village but my opinions are my own.
