The question came up in a different forum about how to embed a youtube video.. you can actually embed video, audio, or images from a variety of sources such as youtube, vimeo, flickr, etc.  When you start a thread of make a comment, you should see fields for embedded media, with a list of the third party media sites below the field.  Each option below the body field, where you type your comment.

Each service is a little different, but with youtube, when you are watching a video, look to the right and you will see a field called "url" and another one called, "embed".  Copy everything from the embed field into the embbed video field and it should work.  Let me know if it doesn't!

ALSO, if you create video, have  your images or audio creations you want to share, don't forget to do so in the Media Gallery.  AGain, though, this is just for digital media that you create.  If you want to start a conversation around media created by others and shared freely on the web, use the forum and embed the video in your post.

Embedded video (optional content):

Chose a random youtube

Chose a random youtube video.  Embedded doesn't seem to work.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/asys1yIOnAI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/asys1yIOnAI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

It DOES work, but only if it is in the embedded video field

I tested the embed text above and it works fine!  However, it can only be used in the field called "Embedded video (optional content)" which is found below the Body field when you make a new post.  This is only available for an original post, it is not available with comments at this time.  Let me know if this still seems problematic!

I don't understand why it's

I don't understand why it's only for the original post.

It's a technical problem,

It's a technical problem, not a philosophical one!  I would like to allow embedded media in comments as well, I am just trying to figure out how to make this work.  Once I do, I will certainly enable this functionality!

Am I correct in assuming

Am I correct in assuming this is the same reason there is zero hotlinking (besides actual URLs, which works inconsistently) for things such as images and what not?  Personally, hotlinking images is infinitely more useful than embedding Youtube videos.  As also suggested in the Reorganization thread, adding functionality that allows UBBC can help with most of this.
