There have been a number of commentsabout the requirement for a subject line, so I thought I'd just post WHY the subject line is sometimes required. It exists because it is sometimes useful. When it is not useful, it will simply take the first so many characters in your comment and make that the subject. However, if you use the quote option, the title would look like this: " [quote=Jasper]Am I correct in..." which is not pretty. Therefore, subject is required only when using the Quote option. You can always just add a "." if you don't want to put a subject in...
Why is the subject line sometimes mandatory?

Why does there need to be a subject for posts? There should only be a subject for topics. Posts are responses to the original post, so all the posts should have the same subject anyway.
It would be nice if it defaulted to something like a blank space if the post way made without a subject.
(I thought that it used to fill in the subject with the post until the subject line filled up.)
EDIT:
There, like that. However, I put in a space in the subject. Going to test post with the line empty.

I just fill it with a period if I don't need a subject.
