I have a Bio 101 book and also PoliSci books that are not accepted by the book-buy-back people. This really sucks of course but I don't really have a use for them, should I just give them to Goodwill or what? What do you do with your dead books?
what should i do with dead textbooks?

You can see if michael's books will give you any store credit/cash for them. And if not, you can leave them in front of michael's in the free book boxes. you can find some treasures in there. it's downtown by the black drop.
www.chegg.com also does book buybacks. Can't guarantee they'll give much but you never know. It's at least worth a shot. Hope you figure something out!
I had 6 dead books and I sold 5 on half.com
You just need to use your eBay account.
hey you said bio 101? i dont really care if it is outdated, do you still have it?
send me an email at colleem15@gmail.com if you do
Usually, what I do after the end of every quarter, if I can't unload the books onto someone else.
I take a lesiurely drive down to my mother's, about 30 min away with some hotdogs & marshmallows. I make a bonfire, then burn the books while having a nice dinner & dessert. ^_^
I sometimes use my old ones to prop up the TV, as a night-stand, coaster, etc.
www.half.com there are always other schools using books that you have. or people who just want them in general
You could try selling your books online at bookcircus.com I have sold some of my old books on there that the bookstore won't take, although they don't always buy textbooks that have just released a new edition.
they will take stuff and hand over cash that some of the other local booksellers people won't... or at least that has been my experience.
Post signs in a centralized location and advertise the books you've got, and how much you want for them. OR try the western forum slot for selling books. =]
I can't believe someone burns their books. Thats just messed up. not to mention a million people could probably use them. what a waste.
i would try selling them on half.com, or in the facebook marketplace! You would be surprised what people need sometimes. :)
I recommend trying chegg.com. For example, I bought a bundle of books for $85 from a student. After I was done with them I checked out chegg and they offered $65 for the books. I sent the books to them and within two weeks I had a check in the mail for $80 because they thought the books were in excellent condition. I recommend chegg.com for renting books as well. I have been using their books for the last two years and have literally saved hundreds of dollars without any problems!
Don't worry.
I don't burn EVERY book... I burn the books that I found to be a headache. I find it to be a nice method of finding closure.
Out of all books I have, I've only burnt 6...
Half Price Books is also an ok bet. wont give you much, but some. There's one near the Everett Mall which may be the closest one to here. There's also one near Southcenter.
I'd recommend betterworldbooks.com. They almost always are buying textbooks for a rather good price, even the older editions. Plus, shipping is free and part of the money goes towards global literacy.

I think it would be best if you gave them a viking funeral. set them gently in a boat. set boat aflame. push onto a water source and give it a proper salute!
Does Western not have a place on campus where old books can be donated to prisoners? If not, we should start one.

that's not a bad idea...

I'd recommend at least holding on to them and trying to sell them for cheap on Craigslist (being honest about being the old edition, of course), since sometimes professors don't mind you using a book one or even two editions behind. Just cross your fingers that others can get away with it in these courses!
Other than that, I don't really think Goodwill can do much with them, since their value falls so much when they're obsolete, plus they probably get a ton of them every quarter.
Carve a secret storage compartment in it ;)
