Hi all!

I am currently trying to take classes for the Geography/Social Studies Secondary Ed track. However, I still need the math requirement and I wasn't sure which class to take, 107 or 156, and was hoping to get some suggestions. I don't need to worry about any prerequisite requirements (I've completed all the rest of the pre req's/GURS).

So basically, for someone who is completely unstimulated by math (I took 156 Winter quarter and recieved a D, despite attending class EVERY day [compared to my other classes which I recieved A's in]), which do you recommend? I'm leaning towards 107 but would appreciate any help/suggestions/thoughts!!

Math 107

I took math 107 my freshman year and it was super easy. I'm not really an ace when it comes to math and this was completely duable, to the point of boredom. You might as well try 107 if 156 just wasn't cutting it.

Math 156 is more business

Math 156 is more business oriented. If you're planning on studying science I would suggest 107.

You might want to check and see what your major would require.

I haven't taken either but

I haven't taken either but as a math junkie I reccomend either getting what is required out of the way so you don't have to bother with it or strapping in and overdosing on the most complex mind breaking mathamatics you can possibly fathom.  I hated trig but the more math I did the more I enjoyed it and the more intuitive it became.  Go for the Gold.

math 156 is definitely more

math 156 is definitely more business oriented so you might want to take 107 as you're science/education.

and ps. take colin ferguson if you can! he's an AMAZING prof, you'll never be bored in his class and he tries really hard to make sure you understand the material. also he doesn't allow calculators on the tests (at least he didn't in 157 business calc) but he makes it really easy (6000 divided by 3 kind of thing)

 I'm a Sociology/Social

I'm a Sociology/Social Studies major, and I'm currently in Math 107.  I would highly recommend it, it is really pretty simple (right now we are working on interpreting statistical studies and whether to believe them or not, the unit before this one I didn't even have to use my calculator), and is basically just busy work.  I'm taking it from Deeney right now, and we do 4 units with 4 unit tests, and then homework pretty much every night.  She's a good professor I think, but I haven't taken any other math courses in college so I'm not sure how others compare.  Good luck!
