Hi! I'm Jessica and I'm allergic to milk. Before I found out about my allergy, cheese was my favorite food (sucks right?). I was wondering if there are people out there who commiserate. What kinds of food allergies do you have? What do you eat on campus? I'd be happy to share recipes and creative ideas with anyone, whether you have food allergies or not. Any favorite dairy-free recipes?

Are you actually allergic to milk proteins, or just not lactose-hypertolerant?
I have a friend who is also allergic to dairy products. She simply can't have any "normal" milk or cheese product, and has to look on the label of most things in grocery stores to see if there are any milk derivatives contained. Soy milk is one substitute, but cheese? Oddly enough, parmesean cheese, if I recall, doesn't cause any problems, so you might want to give that a try, assuming it's not a "deathly allergic" type reaction like with peanut allergies. Good luck!
And for those who don't know, being allergic to milk, and being lactose intollerant are two DIFFERENT things. You can simply take a pill with lactase enzymes and it will solve your problems. If you have an allergy, your body simply does not like something, and can not be cured by simply consuming an enzyme your body no longer produces.
My sister is lactose n tolerant, doesn't eat meat, and is allergic to carrots. All she does is eat indian food.

Lactose is removed during the cheese-making process. That is why.
matt will not run with me... sad story.

I'm not lactose intolerant, but my mom is. I grew up not drinking much milk and now I don't really like it. Most recipies that call for milk turn out just fine with water. Breads, cassarolls, cookies, gravy; no problems. I made tortillas from scratch recently and made a batch with milk and another with water and could not tell them apart.
