So I just checked my email and found a link to FIG's I didn't know FIG's let you register for classes early. All of the FIG's that I would be interested in are full. so my question is are there any other programs that let you register for classes early and what are the chances of one of the FIG's that I am interested in opening up? I'm worryed that im not going to be able to take the classes that I want to.
Registration for Freshmen and FIG's

There is something called SOS which is a program for new freshmen by the Student Outreach Sevrices, but if you were eligible for this program you would have already been notified I think. Its not likely that a FIG will open up....my only advice to you is get used to not getting classes you want. The only thing you can really do as a Freshmen is keep checking back like daily to see if any spots have opened in the class you want. Thats the way we all do it, I havent got a class I want all year through the first time registering, I constanly have to check back.
I am replying to the question about whether there are any programs besides FIGs that allow pre-registration. I believe that there are no other regular programs for freshmen that allow this. In the past, however, every FIG has seen some movement at summerstart, with students dropping their FIG and other students picking them up. So there is a good chance that one of the FIGs that interest you will have seats when you come to Summerstart.
Your Summerstart advisor will also have advice when you come about which classes might work best for you. There will be seats in many courses that are being held back now, so if you are using classfinder to look at courses, this doesn't necessarily reflect the seats that will be available at Summerstart. For example, the FYE courses, which are also part of the first year program, don't even show up on classfinder right now. If you wish, you can go to http://pandora.cii.wwu.edu/firstyear/ to see these courses and to keep an eye on the FIG seats.
Please e-mail me at Karen.Casto@wwu.edu if you have any other questions about first year programs. Welcome to Western!

I've heard of something called FYE courses, which stands for First Year Experience. It's the same basic principle: one class, not a lot of kids, and getting to know a professor well. Though I'm not sure if the FYE courses are still open, so check quickly.
