Fed up with America's two-party system? You're not alone. There are currently more than 54 political parties in the United States. To form a new one, you need to start at the state level.
FirstGov.gov, explains that "nearly all practical matters related to American elections are handled on the State level, including the formation of parties." We headed over to California's Department of Elections to see how it's done in your home state.
Apparently the process of qualifying as a recognized third party is designed to test your resolve as well as gauge the public's interest in your platform. To qualify a new party by registration requires that one percent of last election's voters complete an "affidavit of registration, on which they have written in the proposed party name as the party they affiliate with." To qualify a new political party by petition requires that 10 percent of last election's voters "sign a petition seeking the inclusion of the proposed party in the party nominating process."
If you're serious about forming a new political party, you should check out your home state's Election Commission for further details. Those in the "mainstream" may roll their eyes, but third parties are responsible for some of the United States' greatest achievements. Heck, at one point, even the GOP was considered a third party...

ANYONE INTERESTED? If I can get some motivated people on board that agree with my views maybe we can start some real change. Yes, a real change. I feel this is the best thing to do until the government gives a direct reason for open revolt, a reformation of the constitution and removal of fascism coupled with a true seperation of Curch and State. A New Age party so to speak. Focusing on individual empowerment for the good of humanity. Right to bear arms, right to grow whatever plants you want (Aloe plants are nice), a protectionist view on international affairs, and first and foremost a revamping of our educational system.
I propose an educational system that will motivate all people to be active learners and participators in understanding and knowlege aquisition.
A political party that values the Earth as a single physiological being (maybe not literally from all points of view). A movement where people will believe in working hard for the new nation. Construction of eco-friendly housing (truly eco friendly, not just a buzz word), construction of public monuments like hanging gardens of babylon type structures that use solar power etc.
We must wean ourselves from petroleum and collusion between business and government. The people at the top are a monarchy. George Washington would be deeply saddened.
I could even be a selfless leader if we need one. Like a jesus of politics for a new-age movement. 2012 is right around the corner.

Sounds like you are on the right track, I have always been fed up with the two party system. The only problem I see with forming a third party is that it is a party. Much of the problem with the two party system is that people hold their allegiance with Dems or GOP above their allegiance with the American people. If the stated mission of this new party was not to hold any allegiance to the new party, but to the ideas it represented then I think it would be real change. I would love to see a third candidate at the debates telling the other two to stop fighting about mundane issues and start debating what really matters such as health care, education, alternative energy sources, and foreign policy. Sure they touch on it, but it never sounds like they know what they are talking about. I guess my frustrations have always led me to stay independent in my approach. However, a third party that brought these issues to the forefront and that worked differently, I would vote for.
