Anyone living on North Campus has probably seen this guy at least once, especially if you walk at all on Indian St. I see him at Fred Meyer a lot, and at the library. Always muttering, head constantly bobbling along with his white beard.

To be quite honest I'm curious about this person and his history, but also not looking to possibly be murdered. Anyone else with more faith in humanity than me on here ever talk with this person?

The other day I was outside my apartment and he was riding along like he always does, and then stopped for no apparent reason, stood on the ground and picked his bike up, without getting off of it, and turned himself 180 degrees, got back on, pedaled for like 3 seconds, stood on the ground again and without getting off the bike bent down for what looked to be a nickel, then rode off, head bobbling.

Yeah--

Go talk to him and report back here please. I've been curious, too.

You're right, I have, he does kind of fit the creepy old murderer motif rather well.

That's why I'm wondering if someone else know's differently. The guy doesn't even look at people ever, he is very un-approachable.

.

Could one elaborate on the creepy old murder motif please?

Give him props.  He bikes up that huge hill all the time.

His idenity and a little about him.

His name is Eddie. He is a local and has lived here a very long time. The local police and dispatchers know him well. I have spoken to him for the past 8 years. He is harmless. He travels all over Bellingham on his bike. He doesn't have much in the way of earthly possessions. He has always been kind. He is easily confused about things and quickly distracted. I'm not a doctor or psychologist but I will say he has a lower IQ than average. Just be kind and smile. He does have some where to live and is generally looked after. He wants his dignity too, thus the freedom of the bike. Never be too quick to judge--but quick with a smile. And count your blessings.

That's funny....

I was just thinking about him the other day....about how I see him just about everywhere I go (I do have a limited range of travel in town). When I see him I usually smile and wave to him, and he's always very friendly and waves back.

One of the things I find comforting about Bellingham is all of the usual suspects, all of whom are simply living their lives in the way that they do!

I do remember him from when I was living on North campus! I remember going to my dorm and seeing him begin to go up the hill, but he dropped his bike. I went over to help him but I guess he's just used to it!
I'm really glad that someone knows him! :)
Happy to hear he's still doing good and am looking forward to seeing him around town again.

The funny thing is, I had a feeling there was already a thread about this, but the search function on this forum is apparently useless.

oh geez

Murderer? The guy is so old and frail. About as threatening as a dust bunny.

Quick Draw

I find it.. entertaining (?!) that this person was so quickly labeled as a 'murderer'!! Really?!  I came here believing that Western's campus and Bellingham was an open-minded and nonjudgemental place to live.  A place that was so expecting of different life choices and treats people as... people.  Apparently i've been looking through blinders.

Ted Bundy was a very charming and well respected man. AND MURDERER!!  Don't be so quick to judge a book by it's cover.
