So I have a medical condition that causes me muscle pain and fatigue in my legs. I'm bored in Bellingham and most of my friends are out of the city, so I've been looking for things to get out and do... trouble is, everything anyone knows of is biking/hiking/jogging/play-in-the-park type stuff that's tough on me.

So, I'm looking more for relaxed stuff, places to go and chill, etc. Bonus in the heat if it's somewhere cool that doesn't require a group of friends tagging along. Anyone know of good stuff? Oh and anyone know of good swimming spots (other than the rec center)?

fjejfe

I like Lake Whatcom and Lake Padden for swimming.  I think the YMCA has an indoor pool, but I'm not 100%. In fairhaven, there are free concerts at Boulevard park and movies are played at the Village Green. Hopefully there is a little here to get you started :)

swimming

There is a park on lake whatcom on electric avenue (yes, awesome). it has a swimming area. there is also whatcom falls park on lakeway drive, but the swimming hole is a 4 minute walk or so from the parking lot and it might be difficult to get down to the water (unless you jump). larrabee state park has a nice gravelly beach, not very far from the parking lot. On the south end of the boardwalk near fairhaven is a dock you could swim off, but there isnt any shade. I hear lake padden is good, but i've never been there.

Fun thing to do

There's a place in Fairhaven called "Creativi-Tea" and you paint pottery and can have tea and appetizers (scones, etc) while you paint. They have TONS of things ranging in prices, like small plates, to cups, bowls and even vases or picture frames.

This is really fun to me!  It is quiet, fun, they have all the supplies, you just pick your pottery and then paint. You don't actually have to get tea if you don't want it, but it is kinda fun.

Also in Fairhaven, VillageBooks is a nice place to go and hang out--look at new books. Upstairs they have a cafe, and throughout the entire store they have comfy chairs to sit it and simply read.

Anyways, good luck!

You could always go

You could always go fishing!  There are a number of lakes pretty close to campus like Padden, Whatcom, and Samish.  All of which are fun to swim at.  Pretty warm this time of year as well.  You can also fish at all these lakes.

Bham is pretty great in any arena...

There are free concerts and movies in downtown Fairhaven every Saturday. you can check it out at www.fairhaven.com. Numerous coffee shops and the Bham public library. There's the movie theatres at Sehome village and at the mall. Bellingham is pretty awesome in the way of having things to do no matter what it is you wanna do though. You might also check out shows at Mount Baker Theatre or something, see what they've got going if you're into theatre at all.... I'm also a fan of just people watching in random locations ;)

Depends on what you're into.

Depends on what you're into. Eagle's Hobbies on Holly and Bay has gaming events pretty much every day. Sometimes it's board games, but most of the time it's war games (miniatures like Warhammer) or RPGs (tabletop stuff like D&D, White Wolf, etc). There's a gaming club that meets there Mondays at 6pm that exists to help people find others who play the type of games that they're looking for. (Most groups actually meet at the Gameroom behind the store on Bay Street).
