Good morning!  I thought that since I had success with my last paper I would post another and ask for comments/suggestions. I had tried the writing center on the last paper and found it to be less than helpful.

So if you wouldn't mind looking at this and telling me what you think. Thanks :)

paper

Your right there is something wrong with it. I tried re-attching and it won't work. So I will put it into the body. Although doing it this way removes the spacing and indents and centering, it is better than nothing.

Thanks :)

Greenhouse Gases Pose Health Risks

The Earth's atmosphere is made of different gases including carbon, nitrous oxide, water and carbon dioxide. The atmosphere's purpose is to protect the surface of earth from over heating and the Sun's radiation. Greenhouse gases are in the atmosphere naturally, however, humans contribute to the amount and severity of these gases. In our atmosphere greenhouse gases are supposed to serve the purpose of protecting our planet's surface, however theses gases also pose serious risks such as cancer and other illness and disease. “ Thus, the well-documented threats that climate change holds for societies and for ecosystems- for coral reefs, forests and agriculture- ultimately pose the greatest long-term threats to health, nutrition, and well being” (Almendares pg. 78). Although some greenhouse gases are normal in our atmosphere, there are also gases that are byproducts of certain manufactured items including fire retardant foam, air conditioning units and many other products. These products and gases also contribute to climate change and global warming which in turn creates more damage to our planet.
Almendares and Epstein cover aspects of climate change and the threats it poses to human health as well as the health of the planet and other organisms. “ One of the first direct and most obvious results of climate change-an outcome clearly tied to rising average temperatures- is heat waves. These are expected to take an increasing toll in all nations” (Almendares pg 78). The greenhouse gases are increasing and this is potentially causing the temperatures around the world to slowly rise. The rising gases and temperatures are causing world wide changes including temperature changes, climate changes, changes in weather pattern and many other changes. According to the text (Almendares pg.78) there has been a significant change in temperatures and humidity at night due to an increase in ocean temperatures and the change in atmospheric temperature. Almenderes and Epstein show and explain how climate change and greenhouse gases causes changes in crops, water availability, droughts, floods, changes in insect behavior amongst other changes. “ Warming expands the potential range of infectious diseases and disease carriers. In Southern Honduras, the warming has been so great that malaria no longer circulates. But people have also found the temperatures inhospitable and have moved north into forested areas ripe with malaria; so the indirect impact of climate change is that more people are exposed to health threats” (Almendares pg. 79).
The issues of greenhouse gases and climate change are very important issues. Not enough is being done to combat the greenhouse gas emissions or climate change, although scientific evidence has been gathered and shared with the world. It is understood that by manufacturing certain products such as air conditioning and refrigerators in an effort to make our lives a bit easier we are creating potentially hazardous by products such as CFC's and HCFC's.
The issues of greenhouse gas production and emissions and climate change is a very important topic not only to myself, but to most people. I choose to write on the topic of greenhouse gases because it is a heated debate and deserves to be taken seriously. There has been documented scientific evidence that shows us that there have been changes in greenhouse gases, climate, and to the earths surface and that these changes continue to occur.
Greenhouse gases are in one hand very important to our Earth's protection, however, they are also causing damage to our earth. Naturally occurring greenhouse gases include carbon, water, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide and are meant as a shield to protect the earth's surface from harmful UV rays and over heating. CFC's HCFC's and other greenhouse gases are not naturally occurring in our atmosphere and are causing damage to the earth's surface, ozone layer and many other problems. I did some research on this subject because I find it fascinating that greenhouse gases can and do protect our earth, but find it alarming that we as a race could contribute to the destruction of our planet.
An article that I find very interesting is Greenhouse Gases Poses Threat to Public Health, EPA Finds is about the U.S. Supreme Courts order in 2007 for a scientific review. The EPA released a finding on 17th April 2009 that greenhouse gases add to the pollution in the air and do pose a danger to the publics health and safety. There are at least six other greenhouse gases that currently pose a serious threat the publics health and safety. These are listed in the proposed finding that has moved to a comment period open to the public. Obama has called for lower carbon economy and the need for a stronger leadership in Congress when it comes to clean energy and the legislation of climate.
The EPA has proposed a finding that based on peer-reviewed scientific analysis of these six greenhouse gases and they are at very high levels due to human emissions. It is believed that these greenhouse gases also contribute to drought, flooding, changes in sea level, storm activity, and health risks.
Not only is it believed that this poses these risks, but now it is believed that it also contributes to national security.
To some this ruling or finding poses some significant possibilities of restrictions on emissions, but for some it is a blessing. We all know and understand that greenhouse gases not only pose serious threat to global warming, diminishment of the ozone layer, but also that they pose serious threats to the public’s safety, health and well being. It appears that this finding is only a step in the right direction in combating greenhouse gas emissions.
There are so many things we can do to help in reducing the pollution we cause and the damage we may be contributing to. I would start by driving less, re-planting our veggie and fruit garden, utilize power and appliances less, and other small changes.

The first thing I could

The first thing I could think of is that you should remove or reword all that parts that use "I," "our," or anything referring to yourself in the first person like that. It makes the paper sound less technical and more like casual writing, probably not what you want in a 300 level essay. Also you mentioned that greenhouse gasses affect national security, but there is no explanation as to why or how or a citation for that information. Likewise, the previous line about other effects of greenhouse gasses seems like it should also have a citation. I'm no English major, but I hope that helps.
