I've been wanting to take some voice and guitar lessons, but I'm not a music major. Is there a way to do that through the university, and/or do the university music teachers teach outside of the school?

If not, does anyone have any recommendations for off-campus voice or guitar teachers?

Music

I know for at least voice lessons, some of the voice faculty at Western also have their own studios they run so you could take from them. I don't know how much they pay, becuase I'm sure each teacher is different. Hope this is a little bit helpful. Good luck in your search.

music lessons

I know that if you are a non music major and you want to be considered for music lessons through the school, then you must audition. I'm not sure when auditions are held for vocal or guitarists, but being a string player, my auditions are the 20th, so I am assuming that auditions for those areas of study would be held around the same time. When you get on campus, if you decide to audition, go to the PAC and look for sign up sheets. If you take lessons through the school, its is included in your tuition.

Music Lessons for non-majors--Guitar recommendation

My son has taken guitar lessons from a very accomplished musician all summer long.  Daniel Anderson had a recording contract with Warner Bros. for a band he started called "Idiot Pilot" and has now started another band--"The Ghost and the Grace."  In fact, they are playing tonight at 8 at the Foundary downtown.  He is very gifted, innovative, and a wonderful teacher!  He has a website and facebook/myspace for "The Ghost and the Grace" which would be a good way to contact him.

I'm a music major and I'm

I'm a music major and I'm pretty sure that my music advisors told me that you can take lessons regardless of your major, you just have to sign up for them. Music majors will of course get priority, so one of the lessons classes you want to take could be filled by the majors. I'm not entirely sure about this though. If I were you I'd just go to the instructors and ask them.

I would highly recommend

I would highly recommend looking for music majors who teach, too--there are quite a few! Many of us have taught before and/or plan on teaching professionally once we graduate (I currently teach piano lessons to non-music Western students). Students are also cheaper than getting private lessons from faculty; you also have to remember that the music department gives lesson priority to students who *are* in the music program.

Do it in school. Music

Do it in school. Music teachers outside charge anywhere from $25-$50 for a half hour. Its not that it isn't necessarily worth it, but It would be cheaper to do it in school covered by tuition.

I'm a current voice major,

I'm a current voice major, and my advice for you would be to come around the music building and look for voice majors who are teaching. For part of our music education, we have to teach students, so I'm sure there will be quite a few students looking to teach.

What style of guitar would

What style of guitar would you like to learn, I can teach most styles besides classical for $15/hour.  I have played for around 5 years and can teach you music theory along with technique and such.  If your interested let me know.
