We can end up with a W on our transcripts if we don't drop a class before the quarter even begins???

Is this right? Is this different then previous years?

Sometimes I like to meet my prof and get the syllabus then make a final decision... now if I do that I am going to get a W?

scratch that.

the e-mail I got from registration was very misleading... they will give you a W if you completely withdraw before Sept. 22. You can still "syllabus shop" without W marks...

Out of curiosity, when you see something that strikes you as out of the ordinary, is your knee jerk "go to Viking Village and start a thread about it"?

September 22 "W" confusion

Hello to everyone,

A bulls eye message went out today with some confusing information concerning receiving a "W" on your transcript.  Please let me clear up the confusion.

1.  If you drop a class - or all of your classes - prior to the beginning of the quarter, the class(es) will not be on your transcript or academic history.

2.  Once school begins, if you drop ALL of your classes and do not attend fall quarter, the classes will be listed on your transcript with "SW" (school withdrawal) in the grade column.

3.  You will NOT receive a "W" on your official transcript until Monday, October 5 for a class(es) dropped after the quarter begins.

Hopes this helps.

The Registrar's Office.

 Thank you for the

Thank you for the clarification Kathie! I got 3 emails of the exact same message stating the same confusing thing, mainly:

* If you decide to drop a course or not attend WWU:Log into Web4U and delete your courses before 5pm on:   Tuesday, September 22, 2009 to avoid W grades on your transcript.   Tuesday, September 29, 2009 to avoid being charged tuition.
That really does sound like you would get a W even if you dropped one course. I don't know if the registrars office tried to send out multiple emails because they were attempting to mend the confusion, but I think another email should be sent out to clarify this much more clearly to the whole school.  I'm willing to bet that a lot of people don't even use the forum, and are very confused about this message.
