Good car mechanic?

1. Assuming that a shop will try to scam a girl is already your first problem,
2. it's not hard to avoid being scammed (in general, not because you're female). Look up prices for the work you need done and get a couple quotes, then you'll know what a fair price is.

If you go to get your oil changed at a shop, like jiffylube, they will almost surely try to sell you something that you do not need.  That is where they make all their money, not on the oil changes.  So If/when they tell you you car needs certain work tell them you don't want to fix it at this time.  Then, since you think your car is going to need work in the near future take you car to a michanic and see if they tell you the same thing.  And its always good to remember, if it doesn't sound right it usually isn't, so if you're not sure don't go through with the work.  Sorry I don't know any good michanics in the area as I do must of my own auto work.  Good luck!

My girlfriend and I went to Chuck's Midtown Motors down on State Street. Pretty close to Western and the bus station. We have really good things to say about Scott who works there. He ran a diagnostic like we asked, which tells you what's wrong with your car. We had an ideling problem, which turned out to be a vacuum hose leak, and he fixed it for a few cents extra on the day he did the diagnostic. The car now runs like new!

He printed out a sheet with everything that needed to be fixed, and went through everything with us to make sure that we understood everything that was wrong. We did not feel pressured into anything extra. In all honesty, if you need a regular oil change or a belt replaced, it would be cheaper to go to Jiffy Lube, or do it yourself. You can always looks up Chuck's Midtown Motors on the internet, and email them. They will give you a quote pretty quickly. Overally, they were very professional and I would recommend them to anyone.

I've never been scammed, and I'm pretty good at knowing if some one is trying to pull a fast one... I'm just new to Bellingham and need to get my oil changed. That's all.

Definetley don't go to Jiffy Lube. I have a friend who used to work there and he said that most of the time they are lazy and don't change the oil filters. I do all my car maintenence myself so I can't reccomend any place.

I second Chuck's Midtown Motors. They were always willing to explain things to me over the phone, I didn't feel pressured to get extra services done, and they were really close to campus. I dropped my car off there and when I picked it up I literally walked down there from campus (15ish minute walk). Also, they were willing to not only talk to me but call my dad and let him know what was going on, which was really helpful.
